April 19, 2022Choosing the colour and finish of laminates for kitchen cabinets can be a thrilling and painful process. After all, the cabinets will determine the overall aesthetic appeal of your kitchen. After you’ve decided on a laminate-finished kitchen, here are some things to consider before making your final decision.
Laminates Colours –
Remember that the colours you choose will have a big impact on the overall look of your kitchen, so take your time and make the right decision. That stunning red you admired in your friend’s spacious home may make your tiny kitchen appear even smaller. Make your colour choice based on the size of the room, the amount of natural light available, cooking style, and, of course, your personal taste. Remember that while white and light colours make a room appear larger, they are also more difficult to keep clean. Also, keep in mind that scratches are far more visible on dark surfaces than on light ones.
High-Pressure Laminates –
High-pressure laminates are bonded to the substrate under extreme pressure and heat. They have a much longer lifespan than low-pressure laminates. This is particularly important in the kitchen, where all surfaces must be resistant to moisture and heat. The thickness of these laminates ranges from 0.7 to 1.22 mm. However, even when using a high-pressure laminate, prolonged exposure to water and dampness is not recommended.
Flame-Resistant and Anti-Bacterial Laminates –
Check that the brands you choose have flame-resistant and anti-bacterial properties to ensure durability and hygiene. Flame-resistant surfaces do not easily catch fire. They are also more resistant to heat and smoke. Anti-bacterial surfaces inhibit the growth of germs and bacteria, which is a huge benefit in any home.
Matte Finish Laminates –
These reflect moderate light and are scratch-resistant. Another advantage is that because dirt and stains are not visible on matte finish laminates, they are easy to maintain and are ideal for high-traffic kitchens.
Gloss Finish Laminates –
Gloss finish laminates will add a lot of brightness to your kitchen because of their ability to reflect a lot of light. These are ideal for smaller kitchens because they make the space appear larger than it is. Glossy laminates, on the other hand, require frequent cleaning because they show scratches, smudges, and fingerprints.
Textured Laminate –
These mimic the look and feel of natural materials such as wood, stone, raw silk, suede, and so on, and can be used to add depth to the overall appearance of the kitchen. One disadvantage of using these laminates is that deep-textured laminates can trap dirt and grime, making cleaning and maintenance difficult.
Fire Retardant Laminates –
Consider fire retardant laminates for kitchen cabinets for added safety and fire resistance. Because these laminates have been treated with special chemicals, in the event of a fire, they reduce smoke emissions, do not emit toxic smoke, and the temperature rise of the laminate is delayed.
